Here's my review of a fanfiction story called "Persona 4: Split Personalities," written by Kisdota-The Freak Gamer

The story can be read here.

The story can be described as a retelling of the popular video game "Persona 4," where the Personas (fighting spirits) wielded by the characters in the game have their own personalities separate from their wielders. As a person that has read the story multiple times, I can say that it features both positive and ngeative aspects that contribute differently to the bigger picture of the overall story crafted by the author.

First, there are numerous positive aspects of the story. For instance, the Personas (or fighting spirits) wielded by the various characters in the game having their own personalities that are unique from their users adds variety to an already unique cast. It also gives the effect of seeing how specific events in the story affect both the Personas and their users. Giving the fighting spirits their own personalities also enables the reader to see various perspectives on events in the game outside of those of the wielders. Another positive aspect of the story is that the pacing is balanced nicely so that it does not feel like it is draggin on too long or going too fast. Additionally, the author and story do a good job at balancing the humorous and serious aspects of the original story and the fanfic presents. The chemistry between the characters that was present in the game is present in the story and carries over to the various Personas wielded by the characters.

Unfortunately, there are some negative sides to the story as well. For instance, the beginning chapters can feel a little slow, yet rushed at the same time as they skip over some scenes from the original game to get the story rolling as quickly as possible. Additionally, some parts of the story, particularly the romantic parts can feel like they drag on for a long time, thus leaving readers wondering when the action will resume. Tying into the topic of romance, some romantic pairings feel more natural than others despite the author's best efforts at making them feel natural. Furthermore, there are moments where the characters (both human and fighting spirit) can be and feel very unlikeable, which makes it difficult for the reader to root for them.

While the story has its flaws, it is an enjoyable one, and is highly recommended for fans of the "Persona" video games. If one can get past the slow pacing at the beginning and at times, they will find the story very enjoyable to read.
